Books have the power to transport you. Yet, over three-quarters of the books set by the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) board are exclusively written by white authors and have British storylines. To reimagine the role of books for secondary school students and help them engage with a wider text selection, we created Migrate, an interactive platform that allows students to virtually travel and read books from all around the world. When students log into Migrate, they choose a country or region that they are interested in reading from and instantly have hundreds of book options, cultural lessons, and authors talks at their fingertips. Through a book discussion board on the platform, they’re able to further enhance their learning experience by engaging with other students around the world who are reading the same book. With Migrate, students are able to see the diversity in the world reflected through books, reinvigorating their love of reading.
